30th Anniversary Celebration

On 11th September 2013, my parents' celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. It was a celebration for thirty years of bliss, happiness, understanding, tears, friendship, hardship and most importantly....LOVE. Almost everything was homemade...and although I am certainly no Chef, the simple recipes certainly didn't let me down.

Happy Pearl Anniversary Mum and Dad...
Small gift... BIG heart!

Tea Party for 8 (the table wasn't big enough to display all the food) ... There was actually plenty of food left over for the guests to take home...

Rose petal Shortbread...This was my favourite bake of the day... the texture was perfect and i could imagine it being the perfect little gift to bring to a house party.

Mini versions of the shortbread

Homemade Devon scones... the recipe needs to be altered but they were still lovely when served hot with jam and most importantly...Clotted Cream! YUM

Jelly in vintage glasses...

Homemade mini Victoria sponge... easy as 1...2...3. Probably not the most impressive cake on earth, but it was the thought that counts.

This was cheated! I confess to shop buying this quiche...This is definitely a recipe i want to learn soon.

A selection of sandwiches...Lochmir Salmon, Egg and watercress and classic BLT all in wholemeal bread.

Tea or coffee? Lady Grey and Betty's coffee blend...

Simple decorations really does make the difference. The attention to detail can really turn simple, basic things into the most thoughtful and elegant outcomes...

Quarter past three, afternoon tea! RSVP please! Homemade invitations.

Happy Birthday to Seasons at Rachel's Kitchen! After all the hard work and sleepless nights.. you've done it Rachel!!! The book is finally printing! I enjoyed every minute of this project and working with you was so incredible... our artistic visions collided and I am so proud of what we have done (although there is always room for improvement obviously). Thank you so much for this opportunity. Thank you for all the 'after' work... LOST IN LACE: PROJECT AT BOWES

Bowes Museum have been so lovely and generous, letting me  roam around freely in their 'Glass Cube', where one of UK's largest collection of lace is stored. The 'Blackbourne Collection' has lace dating back to 17th Century... some are nearly 400 years old! It is amazing how these beautiful pieces have been cared for and restored. To me, the craft of lace is such fine art and unfortunately it  is fast disappearing. Have you ever thought of how much patience, skill and hardship that goes into every inch of the lace? Hopefully  i can revive and sustain this beautiful hand craft in my own way. Stay tuned for my project...this is just a teaser hehe

Happy 100th Birthday Sir Norman

Although this one amazing photographer is no longer with us, lets celebrate some of his amazing work on the day that would have been his 100th birthday. Born 21st April 1913, Sir Norman Parkinson is one of fashion photography's pioneers. He changed the history of the fashion industry. He had worked with the most prestigious publications like Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. He has also worked with the most influential people in the world such as The Beatles, The Queen's Mother, Margret Thatcher,  Miss Audrey Hepburn, amongst many others. Whether black and white or colour images, his craftsmanship shows through in every shot. His work tells stories, whether through humour or glamour, they will sure capture the hearts of any viewer. Happy Birthday Sir Norman! Thank you for inspiring my generation... and many generations to come!

Ready for the Sunshine!

DIY Shades for the sunny weather ahead....in.... BARCELONA!
Ready for my city break next week.... Seriously can't wait!

Heavily embellished shades have been spotted in S/S catwalks everywhere, so i decided to make my own 'Budget' version with by using some vintage/ old sunglasses, earrings, beads, Swaroski crystals and even nail polish... all held together by some super glue.

This DIY session was actually really fun and trying on the end products made me laugh quite hard. Sometimes we just can't take life so serious!

School Boy Fashion

This half term holiday my cousin Henry came up to stay with us. Every time he visits, his dear older cousin (me!) always uses him as a 'playdoll' for her latest looks or creations. Since it was the weekend and being inspired by my new school desk, i decided to put together a little vintage school boy look. It sure made him look years younger.. thus making me feel years older! Though he might not look too impressed... i'm sure deep down he loved it! Bring back cute school boys please!

Weekend Bliss.. Weekend Read...

This has been sitting on my book shelf for way too long and i've always meant to read it. I've read most of Xinran Xue's books and this is probably my last one out of her entire collection. Her stories, fiction and non fiction are usually haunting and very political. They are usually stories of life, loss, love and death.  Sky Burial is tells the true story of a chinese women searching for her missing Husband who disappeared in Tibet. This extraordinary life story spans over 30 years, where she was lost in the wild landscape of Tibet. Through the changing seasons, and upon the people she meets, the legend of the sky burial tradition is unraveled...

Reading....Tea...Biscuits... Partying... Easter lunch.... this will be one brilliant Easter weekend.
